I agree that trying to pin the blame on someone else is a dead-end street. But I think blaming ourselves can be equally dangerous because we weren’t really taught how to learn from our mistakes and move forward with a clean conscience. We just feel guilty for a really long time. Someone once said that all men live in a vague sense of Kafkaesque guilt, and I think that’s probably because we blame ourselves just as much as everyone else (sometimes more).
Instead of blaming others or ourselves, we could detach ourselves from the whole situation and see all the other variables involved. I wrote an article from this perspective here, if you’re interested in reading it:
